On 12 September 2026, as part of the KRG government’s preparations to contribute to the drafting of Iraq’s Federal Budget Bill (for fiscal year 2027), the KRG negotiating delegation met with the Kurdistan Democratic Party (KDP) bloc in the Iraqi Council of Representatives.
The delegation presented the outcomes of its recent meetings and discussions (in Baghdad) with the Federal Ministries of Finance, Planning and Oil and also outlined key KRG budget positions, along with related proposals.
The meeting stressed the importance of safeguarding the Kurdistan Region’s (KR) constitutional and financial rights and entitlements, placing particular emphasis on the regular and timely payment of public sector employee salaries and other financial entitlements, while emphasising that salary payments should not be affected by political and financial disputes.
The meeting also underscored the importance of coordination throughout the preparation and approval of the federal budget bill. In emphasising the importance of continued dialogue and coordination, which engages with all Kurdish blocs and representatives in the Iraqi Council of Representatives as equal parties, it stressed both were essential to establishing a common understanding and unified position that will safeguard the KR people’s rights and entitlements in the 2027 federal budget.
