Erbil, Kurdistan Region (GOV.KRD) – Prime Minister Masrour Barzani received Niccolò Fontana, the Ambassador of Italy to Iraq, on Wednesday.
They discussed developments in Iraq and the wider region, ways to further strengthen relations and expand cooperation between the Kurdistan Region and Italy, and continued support to the Peshmerga.
They also discussed outstanding issues between the Kurdistan Regional Government and the federal government of Iraq. The Prime Minister stressed the importance of upholding and respecting the constitutional rights of the Kurdistan Region, including ensuring a fair share of the federal budget for 2027 in accordance with the Constitution.
During the meeting, Tommaso Sansone, Consul General of Italy in Erbil, briefed Prime Minister Barzani on the progress of preparations and work related to the construction of the new Italian Consulate building in Erbil.
